Long march to equality

I have seen a lot of people around me say that ‘these days women are equal to men’.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

Because if women were indeed equal, we would see more women in our offices, on our roads, in politics, in technology –  we would not hear about rape, we would not see other forms of violence against women… the inequality is a strong reality even today.

My message is simple – You and I have an opportunity to change this. At Change.org, I see regular citizens doing this every day.

Like Tejaswini Naik. She is a young Assistant Director in Bollywood. She used her petition to get You tube to take action against some obscene and racist videos of Indian Children.

Like Sanchita, a regular office goer, who through her petition has spearheaded a huge citizen movement to clean up a frothing lake in Bengaluru and made the chief minister take notice.

And there are many more such stories on Cange.org every day.

We have a long way to go to be an equal society. But the smaller changes we are making are adding up. Change is coming and I am proud to be part of a generation that will see an explosion of social change driven by lakhs of Indians.
